Coordenadas arises from a deep questioning of what it means to inhabit a space, to transform a territory, or to reclaim memories. It is a project rooted in the symbiosis between body and place - a gesture that inscribes itself into public space and re-signifies it, turning it into a living organism, mutable and in constant negotiation with those who pass through it. For a place is not merely its physical structure, but what lingers beyond the visible - in the encounters and stories that inhabit it. If a space could speak, what would it say? And if the body could reply, how would it respond?
Through performance and visual arts, Coordenadas positions itself as a laboratory for the territory, inviting a profound reflection on space and its flows. It explores how art can function as an agent of social transformation. The performance becomes a rupture in the everyday - a fissure that reveals new layers of reality, a space for experimentation where the dynamics of daily life are temporarily suspended to make room for a different way of seeing, feeling, or being. But what happens beyond the performance? After the show ends, what remains? Do people return to that space? And how does the memory of the event inscribe itself into the material fabric of the territory?
Can a place be read as a body? Can a body be a map of territories? What is it that makes a space into a place? Is it its history, or the people who inhabit it?
This is not merely an artistic proposal - it is also political and social. It conceives public space as a field of possibilities, where artistic creation is intertwined with urbanism, where the history of a place dialogues with its invisible and forgotten layers, where voices and narratives intersect and reclaim their presence. Because art is not an ornament, but a gesture that can be subversive and transformative. This project is drawn at the boundary between memory and the projection of the future, reflecting on what has been erased, what must be recovered, and what can still be imagined. Gentrification and the growing vacancy of social spaces demand action - a rethinking of identity and a renewed understanding of how inhabitants can engage in the transformation of their territories.
Coordenadas proposes an active listening - a process of engagement with communities, a collaborative effort between artists, architects, urban planners, and both creative and non-creative citizens to build a new way of inhabiting space. It places art at the centre of a process that does not end in a fleeting event, but continues over time and through the experience of those who remain. How can we build networks that extend beyond the moment? How can we embed new practices of inhabiting and appropriating space? How can performance become a field for reflecting on the relationships we establish with our territories?
Cultural well-being emerges as a transversal concept that guides us - an urgent reaffirmation of the right to culture, to encounter, to contemplation, in a time when speed and functionality dominate our territories. Does space need art? Or does art need space? Or perhaps it is the fusion of both that generates true transformation?
