Masterclass: Memória coletiva e criação artística site-specific [Évora]

How can artistic creation in public space activate collective memories, give voice to silenced histories, or engage with the forgotten symbolic layers of a territory? This masterclass, led by Caterina Moroni - an Italian artist with a strong focus on site-specific and participatory work - offers a sensitive and hands-on approach to the relationship between art, place, and memory. Drawing on concrete examples from her international practice, Caterina will guide participants in exploring methodologies that combine territorial listening, community engagement, and dramaturgical construction rooted in context.

Topics to be addressed:

Public space as a living archive and territory of memory.

Artistic strategies for working with local and collective histories.

Methodologies for listening, collecting, and dramaturgical translation.

Site-specific as a relational ethic and process-based approach.

Caterina Moroni is an Italian interdisciplinary artist and cultural and social activist whose work operates at the intersection of performing arts, public space, and participatory practices. Her research focuses on site-specific creation in non-conventional contexts, engaging temporary communities and local territories through relational processes. She has a multidisciplinary background spanning theatre, directing, and cultural project management, which informs her collaborative and context-based approach. Since 2008, she has developed na independent artistic practice presented in numerous international festivals and cultural contexts across Europe and beyond. Alongside her artistic practice, she works as a trainer and facilitator in national and international contexts, leading workshops and training programmes for organisations including Outdoor Arts Italia, SPASA – Street Performing Arts Summer Academy (Spain), and Nawat Fes (Morocco). Since 2019, she has been a member of IN SITU, the European platform for artistic creation in public space led by Lieux publics (Marseille). Her practice explores community engagement and the active participation of citizens through contemporary rituals, urban walks, installations, and site-specific immersive experiences. Each work adapts to its context, fostering meaningful connections and addressing the urgencies and taboos of contemporary society.
