CAMPUS Paulo Cunha e Silva is a new centre for artistic residencies and a workspace for the performing arts in the city of Porto. The project intends to facilitate creation in a more sustainable way, providing the artists with a space and a time that suit the present moment, when experimenting and creating as a community is vital. The centre seeks to tackle new ways of supporting artistic practices that do not focus on the presentation, and above all to increase the offer of workspaces for the city’s artists, favouring continuity and care.
Located in Porto, but positioning itself internationally, CAMPUS Paulo Cunha e Silva offers spaces to research, create, restage and rehearse, always looking to explore and experiment with dance, theatre, animated forms, contemporary circus and any other hybrid format emerging from the crossings of these disciplines. It is also a space to interact and exchange, and thus a place to strengthen and further practices, to experiment, to bring together the unique and singular.
Taking over the former José Gomes Ferreira elementary school in Travessa dos Campos, CAMPUS Paulo Cunha e Silva is directed by Ágora — Cultura e Desporto E.M. / Câmara Municipal do Porto in close proximity and dialogue with the vibrant local community, therefore preventing the project from freezing in time.
The four studios, living/dining room, bedrooms and outdoor spaces can also be used by the community to watch open rehearsals, artist talks and other public, sharing activities. Daily classes for professionals will also take place there, and there is a free-access performing arts library that shall expand as time goes by and the place is used.
