Cultural Equipment of the Municipality of Pombal, which becomes year after year a reference place for reflection and knowledge in terms of different artistic areas, its mission is to contribute to the cultural development of the city of Pombal. This is a space that promotes the quality of the arts at a local and national level, as an artistic and cultural space, as well as a space for knowledge, training, communication and social responsibility. Develops cultural programming across all areas of activity (visual arts, architecture, performing arts, multimedia, cinema, music, design, illustration, literature, fashion, among others), in order to raise public awareness of art and culture, contextualizing cultural identity in the territory. Casa Varela allows artistic encounters, through the temporary hosting, in an artistic residency, of local, national or foreign cultural agents who are in the process of artistic creation. This is a flexible and modular structure, which provides support on the path to the professionalization of the arts in our territory, a catalyst for experiences in the connection between artists, researchers and the community. In its third year of opening doors, Casa Varela Project asserts itself as an artistic and cultural space, as well as a space for knowledge, training, communication and social responsibility, enhancing the development of communities in the democratization of access to information, in knowledge and artistic expressions. A catalyst for cultural and educational dynamics, it encourages and reaffirms culture in the field of citizenship, promoting proximity between artists and local communities, stimulating creation and local artistic production. It opened its doors in 2021 in the middle of the pandemic. In 2023 there were 26 residencies (Pombalense, national and international artists); 17 shows (music, theater, Multimedia); 6 exhibitions. With a total of 9,197 visits and/or spectator participants.
