ANA JORDÃO develops practice of authorship in the field of contemporary circus, exploring circus language in a distinctive way, in dialogue with dance, object work, and performative practices. Her work emerges from a continuous research into the body as both material and site of relation, proposing sensitive dramaturgies that question and expand the boundaries of circus vocabulary, establishing hybrid forms that are often poetic, contemplative, and experimental.

Since I AM (K)NOT (2016), which toured internationally for more than four years, she has built a consistent trajectory within the European contemporary circus landscape. In CAN A SHADOW HAVE A PERSON? (2021), awarded by CircusNext under its former title DÉCORPS D’INTÉRIEUR, she develops a duet between body and it's alterity, exploring shadow as a relational presence and choreographic material. In ONE, TWO, THREE, AND NOW YOU ARE A TREE! (2024), in collaboration with BETA CIRCUS and Rīgas Cirks, she engages in participatory practices where encounters with local communities become a central material of the work.

More recently, A BODY AND OTHER OBJECTS (2025) deepens her investigation into hybrid languages, reconfiguring hair-suspension techniques in dialogue with partnering, martial arts, and object manipulation. Conceived as a mutable device, the project unfolds in different formats: a short version for public / non-conventional spaces, a full-length version for theatres, and a performance act format, addressing diverse audiences, contexts, and temporalities.

Beyond her authorial creations, Ana has also developed commissioned works, notably CHAMA DO MAR (2018), created for the first edition of the LEME Festival (PT), and ASSOMBROSAS CRIATURAS (2019), created for the Night of European Literature of the Goethe-Institut in Lisbon.

Her creations assert a distinct artistic signature, where technique, intimacy, and relations with objects and materials intertwine in an ongoing investigation of the body as living matter, simultaneously object and agent of transformation.

Her work has toured widely across Europe and sometimes extends into other formats such as video art, performance-lecture, site-specific projects, performative installations, and publications. In parallel, she collaborates with other artists as performer, outside eye, co-researcher, and mentor, maintaining a transversal and relational practice.
